1. Who are you?/Age/Occupation

Lynne O’Brien, 35, Mental Health Counselor

2. Favorite Athlete:

Anne Garton, an Australian triathlete. Anne lost everything at the onset of her mental illness – her home, car, career, dignity, self-esteem and hope.  In her attempt to find a life worth living during a long term hospitalization, Anne set a goal to finish a triathlon. Despite deep depressions, high levels of anxiety and periods of low motivation, Anne trained hard and eventually became a member of the Australian Triathlon Team. Anne is a tremendous example of strength and courage and is a great role model for all.

3. Favorite Quote:

“What you do may seem insignificant, but it is important that you do it” –Gandhi

4. Favorite Sport:

I am developing a love for running and I enjoy watching gymnastics.

5. Favorite Healthy Food:

The latest craze…baked sweet potatoes with black beans and salsa, or vegetable soup.

6. Are you training for your first triathlon? If not, which ones have you done?

My first triathlon was Danskin 2006 and I completed Long Beach and Subaru as well.

7. What inspires you to do triathlons?

I am attracted to the sport for several different reasons. First, I like the challenge of training and the sense of accomplishment that comes from completing a race. Secondly, three sports in one is a perfect match for my short attention span. Lastly, I appreciate that the sport attracts all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities.

8. WHO inspires you?

The list is long, so I will just share a few … I am inspired by the people I work with who despite their challenges or struggles push beyond what is comfortable to live life with intention. I am inspired by my husband who never stops smiling, loving or appreciating life. But… it’s my divas that keep me motivated. Sharing a journey and seeing the growth in others has been very inspiring.

9. What is your biggest challenge/fear?

My biggest challenge is time management. Being able to do it all - work, school, volunteering, and training while being a semi-decent wife, sister and friend is difficult at times. My biggest fear is getting a head injury.

10. Any advice for future TriDivas?

Don’t take yourself too seriously. You don’t need the best equipment. The skill and fitness will come. There’s more to this group then achieving physical results. Take it all in and have fun!

11. What do you enjoy most about training with the TriDivas?

The positive energy. I appreciate the support, encouragement, motivation and friendship that TriDivas offers.

12. What are your future goals?

Complete the LA Marathon and have fun doing it.
